FIREWORK PARTY: Harvington First School's PTFA members were delighted with the success of the firework party last Friday at the village playing field when, blessed with fine weather, the event attracted many families and friends. The sale of hot food in the village hall was again popular. This party may become a yearly event, owing much to the enthusiastic help given to the organisers by many of the parents and friends of the school. Among these, and mentioned particularly by the organisers when they were speaking of the thanks they owed to a lot of people, are Buzz Electrics of Evesham and Coley's Farm Shop, whose generosity, both in goods and man-hours, was invaluable. It was also said how fortunate the village was to have had people of vision, drive and patience to bring to fruition the plan to create and maintain the playing field which has become such a village asset.

SCHOOL REMEMBERS: The school's Remembrance Service will take place tomorrow in the school hall, and members of the public are invited to be present. Visitors are asked to be in their places no later than 10.45am.

IN MEMORY: All Souls' Day was commemorated in a service at St James' Church last Wednesday, when many parishioners attended to mourn the loss of loved ones and remember them in prayer and thanksgiving. The porch, the altar area, steps and quiet corners and windowsills were all filled with flowers - arrangements made to order by church member Yvonne Bishop, all of them bearing the names of the departed. Hymns were sung, names were read into the solemn silence and then everyone processed quietly to the alter to place lighted candles there, at which point the chancel lights were put out leaving only the light from the candlelit altar to illuminate the building.
