SHOEBOX APPEAL: Mickleton Society members were addressed by Bob James on the work of the Samaritan's Purse. Their main work is providing shoeboxes to overseas orphanages; hence Bob's other name - Mr Shoebox. Bob is area co-ordinator for Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Worcestershire and has been doing this work for many years.
Bob operates from a warehouse in Evesham and his area alone sends more than 115,000 boxes each year to children in Belarus, Bosnia, Gambia, Crimea and India.
Many of the audience are accustomed to filling shoeboxes and also providing gifts direct to Bob.
WEDNESDAY CLUB: In the absence of the chairman, a friendly quiz was on the agenda. Mrs Joan Chaloner was the question-master and also devised the quiz. The overall winning table was led by Mrs Margaret Davies, vice-chairman.
At the last meeting, chairman Mrs Mary Mountford welcomed members, reminding them of the forthcoming Christmas bazaar where the club will be running a jewellery and scarf stall and contributions are still required. The club's Christmas party tea will be on December 7.
On December 2, Mrs G Gayton will give a talk on Our Daily Bread.
Members were musically entertained by Mr and Mrs Ledbury, known as Morning Dew.
On October 5 an outing was arranged for members to go to Sulgrave Manor in Northamptonshire, the ancestral home of George Washington.
Money raised at Mrs M Phillipson's cheese and wine party was divided between the Wednesday Club and King George's Hall.
