A WORLD premiere is staged at Bromyard's Conquest Theatre on Saturday.
Mompesson's Well is the latest offering from the pen of award-winning writer Simon Andrew Stirling - whose Wayward Women caused a bit of a stir with its paganism and witchcraft.
He has turned his focus to the story of William Mompesson, a man whose memory failed him.
"I'd always been fascinated by the story of Eyam, the plague village in Derbyshire, and its vicar William Mompesson," Simon said.
Mompesson's Well was where emergency supplies were left for the stricken villagers.
"It's a very funny, moving, touching play," said director Lynn Davies.
"It's a love story and a detective story, a kind of modern morality play."
The Cheltenham-based Kayelle Productions are touring to eight venues including The Conquest and Ross-on-Wye's Phoenix Theatre on November 17-19. Tickets for Bromyard are available on 01885 488575.
