AN exhibition celebrating objects of domesticity will take place in the gallery at The Theatre, Chipping Norton, this month.
Marie Robinson's work often references the home environment. The exhibition features oil paintings, for which Marie has taken the ordinary, inexpensive and often overlooked objects as her subject matter.
Her contemporary still lives combine mundane and functional household items with those images of nature that are brought into the home in order to decorate it. These take the form of printed patterns, decorated pots and artificial plants and flowers.
A resident of Chipping Norton, Marie's ambition had always been to become an artist even though her earlier life experiences had a different focus.
Having initially studied chemistry before having her two children it was only while bringing them up that she was able to develop her artistic talents.
This was possible through the flexible local education opportunities available for adults returning to study.
This enabled Marie to fit her study around working and home life and she finally graduated in 2002 with First Class (Hons). Since her last solo exhibition at the theatre in 2001, Marie has exhibited successfully both locally, nationally and in London. She currently divides her time between her studio in Chipping Norton and working as a picture researcher in a photographic library.
Marie Robinson's Exhibition will run from November 18 to December 19. The Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and during live events and films. For further details please contact the box office on 01608 642350.
