LIGHTING up the skies around Malvern and Ledbury next weekend are a variety of spectacular - and safe - organised firework displays to mark the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot.

Malvern: At the Three Counties Showground, fireworks will be set off in time to musical favourites on Saturday, November 5.

Munderfield-based specialists Dragon-fire Ltd will choreograph the £7,000 spectacle. The 20-minute display will be accompanied by a soundtrack of contemporary and classical music, ranging in tempo from Harry Potter to Nimrod. Fairground rides, traditional food and drink are part of the fun.

Gates open at 5pm and the fireworks begin at 8pm. Admission is £5 for adults, £18 for a family ticket (two adults and two children). Under 5s go free and there is free parking.

Meanwhile, the New Inn, Lower Howsell Road holds a bonfire barbecue and fireworks night on Saturday, November 5, at 7pm in aid of the County Air Ambulance. Entry is free.

Bromyard: Bromyard 93 Club's annual firework pageant is at Bromyard Rifle Club, Stourport Road, on Saturday, November 5.

The bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm, followed by a dazzling firework display provided by seasoned event experts Pepperpot Pyrotechics.

Warm food will be available and covered viewing in the event of bad weather. Gates open at 6pm and family tickets are £8. All proceeds will go to local charities and a donation will be presented to Talking Books for the Blind.

COLWALL: The primary school's bonfire and firework spectacular has two big firework displays, a themed Bonfire Art Zone, featuring an exhibition of pupils' work, a sparkler zone, bar and barbecue, including mulled wine and soup. The event is on Saturday, November 5, at the school and will open at 6pm. The bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm with firework displays at 6.30pm and 7.15pm. Admission is £3.50 adults, £2 children.

Cradley: Cradley's bonfire and fireworks display will take place at St Catherine's, in the centre of the village, on Saturday, November 5.

A pork roast and barbecue will be available for spectators. Admission is £5 for adults, £3 for children. Family tickets are £15.

Bosbury: FRIENDS of Bosbury Primary School have organised a display on the school playing fields on Friday, November 4. Gates open at 6.30pm and the fireworks start at 7pm. Hot food and beverages will be on offer. Entry is £5 for adults, free for children.

Earls Croome: A firework and food evening should go with a bang on Saturday, November 5. The event is on the field between the church and the village hall and starts at 6pm. In addition to firework fun, hot drinks, bacon rolls and soup will be available for all of the family. Admission is £2.50 for adults and accompanied children go free.

Ledbury: Ledbury Round Table hosts its annual bonfire and firework display at Ledbury Park on Friday, November 4. The event is sponsored by town businesses, with proceeds going to local charities. Warm food will be available. Admission is £5 for adults, £3 for children and family tickets are £12.

Pencombe: Young Farmers celebrate this year's bonfire night with a timely Battle of Trafalgar theme on Sunday, November 6. The event begins at 5pm in a field signposted between the sports field and the old people's home. A bar and barbecue will offer food and drink. Tickets are £3 adults, £2 children.

Worcester: Worcester Rugby Club provides an evening of family fun with a Harry Potter theme on Sunday, November 6.

The £6,000 firework extravaganza includes a light show accompanied by dramatic musical fanfare. Food, a bar and covered seating are available. Free parking is available at the Sixways ground, Pershore Lane, Hindlip. Pre-booked tickets are £5 for adults, £2.50 for children from 01905 459325. Tickets are available on the night on a first come first served basis, priced £6 for adults and £3 for children.

WEST MALVERN: Croft Farm will host a bonfire, fireworks and barbecue on Saturday, November 5. Beforehand, there will be a torchlight procession setting off from the village school at 7pm. Admission to the field will be £2 for children, £4 for adults and £8 for a family ticket.
