GARDENING CLUB: There was a good attendance at the meeting in spite of the autumnal feel to the weather. A warm welcome was given by the chairman and an invitation was extended to all members and their partners to attend the club's 25th anniversary party to be held on Wednesday, November 16.
The party is to be held immediately after the AGM and there will be a buffet supper, wine and music.
Next year's club holiday to Northumberland is to be in September rather than the usual spring holiday and members were asked to put their names down as soon as possible as coach and hotel bookings need to be confirmed. The Garden Club is to sell bulbs in pots and other gardening items at the Village Bazaar to be held on Saturday, November 12 and everyone was encouraged to support this event.
Chairman Bridget Maslin then informed members that one of her worst fears had materialised - our speaker for the evening was unable to reach us as he was stuck in a lengthy traffic jam and had been for several hours.
However, Bridget, with her wonderful organisational skills and powers of persuasion, quickly had us all involved in a gardening quiz. This proved to be enjoyable and informative with some quiz answers surprising members. Following coffee, four brave club members were volunteered to answer members' questions in an inpromptu "Gardeners Question Time" .
Our knowledgeable panel members were Alan Hale, Vera Fisher, Peggy Atherton and Linda Collins. The audience enthusiastically participated in both questions and answers and the evening was enjoyable in spite of the necessary change of plans.
