A TALENTED actress from Stourport will be jetting off to America tomorrow to attend a prestigious drama school.

Alex Hamilton has accepted one of two overseas places offered to European actors at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

The academy, which is based in New York, has produced stars including Kirk Douglas, Danny Devito, Kim Cattrall, Paul Rudd and Grace Kelly.

Miss Hamilton has been working as a professional actress since completing a performing arts course at Kidderminster College and taught drama classes at a summer camp in New Hampshire.

She has also played Princess Aurora in the pantomime Sleeping Beauty, which toured Scotland and the part of the Snow Queen in performances of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in south England.

Recently, the 24-year-old has been working in London where she stared in a film called Movies which recently had its premiere in London, alongside actor Peter Ellis.

Miss Hamilton said she was excited about her trip adding: "I got the place in February so it seems to have been a long time coming.

"It is a training programme to build up your acting skills and there are master classes from past students as well as singing and dancing."

The former Stourport High School pupil, who has ambitions to perform in classical theatre on Broadway attended an audition in London.

She said: "I had to do two speeches, one classical and one contemporary. There were so many people there after the same place that I assumed I wouldn't get in but thankfully I did."

Miss Hamilton will be in New York for a year and afterwards has the chance to transfer to Los Angeles for another 12 months.
