Recently I went to London. My destination was Tower Pier, next to the Tower of London; my aim to arrive at 9am. We entered London from Essex and approached the Tower heading south down Tower Bridge Road, we required to take the last turn on the right before Tower Bridge. Big mistake! When we arrived at the point to turn right we found that there was no right turn. We could not turn because there was a concrete wall down the centre of the road, at least we could not ignore the road signs, had we wished to. At this point we discovered why London needs a congestion charge, they have manufactured the congestion, and had to cross Tower Bridge, turn left then keep turning right until we arrived back at Tower Bridge Road heading north, a distance of over a mile. We arrived at 9.15am.

Why am I relating this to you? Well in Evesham we have the same disease, take the High Street and Greenhill for instance. Modified when Bridge Street was closed and Swan Lane traffic flow reversed, we were promised, after many complaints, a review, I seem to have missed it! Some 50 years ago in Leeds, the city centre traffic was 'improved', the powers that be introduced a one way system that involved traffic crossing, when by reversing the system there would have been no interference. To the best of my knowledge it is still there.

I have come to the opinion that traffic managers/engineers must be the only profession that does not learn by experience, or is the aim to cause chaos everywhere they can?
