THE world premiere tour of an adult fairytale, complete with masks, puppets and music, should make for an interesting night out in Pershore next week.
'Happily ever after is about to end' says the billing for Beyond Midnight, the show which is on is first tour fresh from the Edinburgh Festival.
Performed by the Trestle Theatre Company, Beyond Midnight is an adult version of the Cinderella story, telling the tale of Cinderella's daughter.
Cinderella is dead and the law says her widowed husband must remarry. He still has the glass slipper, though - could it work for him again?
Trestle Theatre Company is based in St Albans. It was formed in 1981 by four students from Middlesex University and has grown to tour nationally and internationally with professional productions and education projects.
The dark but humorous script for Beyond Midnight, which is suitable for audiences aged 14 and over, has been written by acclaimed playwright Diane Samuels.
Trestle Theatre's new artistic director, Emily Gray, said: "I revisited the questions of why and how masks can enhance a piece of theatrical story telling.
"I re-read Diane Samuels' story of Cinderella's daughter and it struck me as a piece of writing with enormous potential for an interpretation through mask and physical theatre."
The play was highlighted as one of the Guardian's 50 unmissable events at Edinburgh in August.
Beyond Midnight comes to Pershore's Number 8 Community Arts Centre on Monday.
Tickets are £10 and £9. Box office: 01386 555488.
