Tradition evolves at the Hop Pocket Craft Centre in Bishops Frome.
The Green Stage Gallery, which is situated in the old hop kilns, is the long-term project of Will Pudge, who runs the gallery with his partner Anna Snell.
"Both of us have a huge interest in art and generally in artistic things," Will said.
"Ever since we started talking about the renovation of the kilns, I had it in the back of my mind that this particular space would make a great gallery.
"I always wanted it to be a bit like in Elizabethan mansions, where there is a long room housing art."
The gallery is called the Green Stage, because that was the room's name when the green hops were stored there during hop harvesting.
"This was my domain," Will said.
"I used to sleep in this building for three to four weeks at that time, so figured I had as much of an idea as anyone about how the space works."
The gallery aims to show three or four major exhibitions a year with a focus on local and regional art, though not exclusively.
