FLOWER SHOW: Grey skies and heavy rain did not deter people from Weston Church show and fete at the Hall of Friendship, The show was started in 1960 and has been a yearly event since then. Though this year lacked carrots and runner beans, other entries were a success, especially those in the children's section. All money raised is for church expenses.
Margaret Bird was the overall winner in the vegetable, fruit and flower section (Cottagers' cup) also the single rose and Henry Norton cup for the flower section.
Mrs E Smith won the Outsiders' cup for most points in the vegetable, fruit and flower section and Mrs M Cliff cookery, with Lavinia Stephenson winning the decorative section.
Other winners in these sections were Mrs P Baldwin, Rita Jones, K Winkett and Linda Jelfs, James Knight, J Tomes.
Cookery: Mrs P Baldwin, Margaret Cliff, Jack and Amy Bird, Linda Jelfs.
Handicraft: R Winkett, Mrs M Smith, Cara Spittle, Henrietta, Madeleine, and William Knight, Jennifer Bent, Jack and Amy Bird.
Children's section: Melanie Bent, Greg and Leo Brice, Lucia Hudson-Evans, Alexander King, Archie Organ, Tilly Dave-Dixon, Lizzy Collins and Verity Knight.
Other prizewinners were: Jeannette Dow, John Titterington, Mrs P Baldwin, Jack and Amy Bird, F Haydon, C Collins, C Stephenson.
As well as the actual show there were many attractions to keep people occupied including bric-a-brac, skittles, morris dancers, a fire engine, and old tractors.
Raffle prizewinners were: Mr Wilson, Caroline Clarke, Steve Woods, Joyce Court, H Organ, R Rogers, D Tatlow, D Valender, D Bates, Cath Salter.
Bowling for a ham was won by Mr Spittle.
