THOUSANDS of clubbers will be left shocked at the news that The Rooms in Hereford is to close its doors for good at the beginning of May.
The venue has provided a loyal home for club night Naughty But Nice for the past 10 years, and during that time every big name DJ in the industry has graced the decks.
But owner Clive Davis has decided to sell up after being made an offer he couldn't refuse from a consortium who will turn the site into shops and flats.
Clive who has been connected with the club from its formation, said the Rooms always changed with the times.
"When we started we had some great artists like The Shadows and Eartha Kitt and then later on we gained recognition in the music industry with our Naughty But Nice event, which had, up until last Augus,t been run by promoter, producer and DJ Andy Passman," he said.
Lisa Lashes, one of the clubs regular guest DJs, has had many gigs at the venue, not least its 10th birthday in August last year.
"Life will never be the same. It's part of clubbing history in the UK. Thank you to Naughty But Nice, the clubbers and the club," she said.
The venue opened in 1970 as an amusement centre and originally staged unlicensed discos at the back of the premises before converting to one of the country's top cabaret clubs, attracting star names like the Beverley Sisters, Bob Monkhouse and Jim Davidson.
By the early 90s The Rooms gained national recognition in the clubbing world.
The Rooms may be closing, but the Naughty But Nice party is far from over.
It is looking for a new venue and there is also a mini-tour planned at the end of the summer so other clubs around the South West and Wales can experience the club night.
Look out for Mixmag and Anne Savage tonight, The Naughty But Nice Easter Ball with Marc Vedo next Friday, South Wales Special, featuring Cally and Juice, Big Pete and Neil C on April 16, an Ibiza and Manumission party with Griff and Jay Walker on April 23, and Lisa Lashes on April 30.
