THE latest "Live at the Library" presentation by the Classical Music Society, was one of the most enjoyable concerts at this venue.
Pianist Janine Smith, mezzo-soprano Dawn Foxall and soprano Diana Sharp provided a varied programme of songs and arias, with Sebastian Parsons as narrator.
The first half was based on Ulysses' adventures, and the second half depicted Hans Christian Andersen's "Little Mermaid".
Janine, a regular visitor to Kidderminster, gave a fine performance of Debussy's "L'Isle Joyeuse", and the extremely difficult "Flight of the Bumblebee", when the other Sirens chased the imaginary bee around.
Dawn and Diana have fantastic voices, some of the highlights being Rusalka's "Song to the Moon", beautifully sung by Diana, and Dawn's verson of "Una Voce Poco Fa" from "Barber of Seville".
Particularly enjoyable were the duets "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", "A Boy Like That", and the always-popular "Cat Duet" by Rossini.
Audience participation led to a memorable La Regatta by Rossini - who could forget watching town clerk Charles Talbot and compere Terry Wilkinson paddling away like mad as sailors the Sirens were trying to lure? What a great concert!
