AN account of life in war-torn Iraq by a Bewdley author was among winning entries in a short story competition.
Nigel Knowles's work, Letters from Basra, was one of four recognised in the Short Cuts competition organised by the Midland Arts Centre in Birmingham.
His entry was chosen by novelist, Helen Cross, whose book, My Summer Of Love, was made into a film.
Mr Knowles's fictional story comprises letters written by Jason, an ex-soldier who works with security personnel in Basra, to his girlfriend, Gina, a prison worker living in Kidderminster.
The author, who has had 15 books published, chose two photographs for the book's cover of Basra in 1914.
Mr Knowles, who is now writing full-time, plans to continue his books on Iraq.
Letters from Basra is available from Bewdley Books, 20 Load Street, Bewdley and Star and Garter Publishers, 18 Welch Gate, Bewdley or telephone 01299 402343.
