ST JAMES'S CHURCH: The pancake party organised by the social committee and held in St James's church on Shrove Tuesday evening was very well supported and raised £75 for the Children's Society. This was one of those occasions when the area at the west end of the church was put to very good use for a secular cause and was a foretaste, it is hoped, of the many such events which will take place there when all the planned alterations and improvements have been completed. Readers are reminded that more can be learned about these plans and other facts concerning the running of the church and its hopes for the future at the annual meeting which will take place on Sunday evening, April 10, following a shortened evensong.

The service for the Women's World Day of Prayer, which has been devised this year by the women of Poland, will take place in the church at 6pm on Friday, March 4 (with tea or coffee being served from 5.30pm onwards). In announcing this, the rector emphasised the point that although it is called the Women's Day of Prayer it is, in fact, something which would hold great meaning for men too and they would be most welcome. The theme of the service is Let our Light Shine and the speaker is to be Sarah Thorniley, the rector's daughter. You are warmly invited to attend.
