ONE hundred local performers are preparing to take to the stage in Rhayader this Sunday (Feb 20) to raise money for victims of the Asian tsunami.

CARAD (Community Arts Rhayader And District), with the help of organisations including Rhayader Leisure Centre and Powys Youth Service, is organising the community event to raise the cash.

The music and performance event, at 3pm in the leisure, will range from rock bands, folk, samba and traditional music to dance and performance provided by all ages in the community.

Confirmed in the line up were local singer Charlotte Jones, a recent semi-finalist in BBC Wales' Just Up Your Street, Atom Music Award winner Jack Harris, The Voices in Unity Community Choir, The Rhayader Players, Repercussion Street Band (Samba), The Hostages, Harmony Trio, John Les Davies, Mike Bennett, and Ken Price, The Cover Girls, Bryntirion Church in Wales Primary School, Shakespeare Link, and CARAD young musicians.

In preparation for the concert, CARAD is organising a free creative workshop this Saturday (Feb 19) between 2pm and 4pm at Rhayader Leisure Centre.

It is an opportunity to help decorate the stage before the concert, and to help make some of the items to be used during the event.

All ages are welcome but adults need to accompany under-10s.

Contact CARAD on 01597 810 192 for more details about the workshop, or to buy tickets for the fund-raising concert. Tickets are also available from Rhayader Leisure Centre (01597 810 355) and Hafod Hardware.

CARAD Associate Director Debbie Wozencraft said "We are really proud of the community spirit that we have in Rhayader, and this is an opportunity for us to positively help others who are struggling to rebuild their communities."
