A GREEK-Canadian composer and musician will be showcasing his skills in Kidderminster in the latest instalment of a scheme taking professional live art shows to community venues across Wyre Forest.

Pavlo in Concert is being staged at the Rose Theatre on Saturday, April 16, and is being billed as a "wonderful evening to thrill your audience and set your feet tapping".

The show is being presented in association with Shindig - a joint initiative between all councils in Worcestershire and Arts Council England, offering a wide range of subsidised tours including music, opera, and dance.

The scheme has already taken the Old Rope String Band to Cookley First School and the Grand Theatre of Lemmings to Areley Kings Village and is also set to bring a show by critically acclaimed folk duo, John Spiers and Jon Boden, to Clows Top Victory Hall on Sunday, May 8.

The hall has already hosted the Shindig-subsidised children's show, East O' The Sun, West O' The Moon and Clows Top Victory Hall committee spokesman, David Phillips, said it was a great success.

"East O' The Sun, West O' The Moon went very well indeed and we couldn't really have got many more people into the hall than came.

"The children were delighted and we're hoping that this one will match it.

"It's obviously aimed at a totally different audience range but if we can get the same reaction to this as the other we'll be very pleased."

"We couldn't afford to put acts like this on without it," he added of the Shindig initiative. Even local acts are becoming financially unviable for village halls to book so, from that point of view, it's very good, particularly for a small hall like ours."

He added the committee had recently received next year's Shindig programme and although no decision had been made, he expected it would apply for further acts.
