BEETLE DRIVE: The Beetle Drive run by the St James' Social Committee in the village hall last Saturday evening proved a great success, attracting more than 40 players and raising £200 for church funds. At the end of the evening, John Redman, chairman of the village hall management committee, took the opportunity of advertising the event which is to take place at 7.30pm on Sunday evening, a concert being promoted by the committee as a fund-raising event for the new hall appeal. He explained that the Sunday night date was the only one possible at this time for the Sheena Davis group, who are in great demand in the area. They are professional artistes whose services are available because of the subsidies they receive from the Arts Council, the county council and Wychavon District Council. Tickets can be obtained from any member of the hall committee. Prices are £6 with £5 as the concessionary rate

The church is appealing for more help at its regular Saturday mornings clearing and tidying of the churchyard and cemetery, the next of which is on Saturday, from 9.30am till noon. On the last such occasion, two or three weeks ago, only five people took part and only one of them was from the non-churchgoing community rather than church congregation.
