A GROUP of musicians are set to come together for a musical journey through the life of one of the best modern jazz pianists around.
Dave Brubeck's impact on jazz history is unmistakeable and his music will come to life at Worcester's Huntingdon Hall on Thursday, April 21, when the Martin Hart Quartet takes to the stage to perform The Dave Brubeck Story.
The quartet comprises Roger Munns on piano, Peter Cook on alto saxophone, Peter Hughes on double bass and Martin Hart on drums.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet, headlined by Brubeck on piano and alto-saxophonist Paul Desmond, helped reawaken interest in jazz after the Second World War. Their output was an integral part of the new style which was to characterise American jazz in the 50s and 60s and their 1959 release Time Out became the first million-selling jazz record in modern jazz history.
It sparked the beginning of a mass of other artists experimenting in more unusual time signatures, other than the traditional 4/4 and 3/4.
The Dave Brubeck Story is a musical trip through the musician's life, from his early years in California, through his rise from a gigging musician to a world jazz name.
