THE United States during the Second World War is the setting for Wythall Theatre Company's latest production, Lost In Yonkers, at Kingsley College Theatre from today.
Written by popular playwright Neil Simon and winner of the Pulitzer Drama Prize, the play follows the story of two brothers, Jay and Arty, played by guest cast members Palace Youth Theatre's Sam Marriott and James Cassidy, who are sent to live with their matriarchal grandmother after their mother's death.
A spokesman explains: "Grandma Kurnitz rules her roost with an iron fist. A bitter old woman, she shares her house reluctantly with her two grandchildren - she tells the boys: 'It's not important that you hate me, it's important that you live.'
Described as "a touching and magical tale full of laughter and tears", the comedy also features Aunt Bella, who makes the boys' stay bearable and small- time gangster Uncle Louie, whose arrival on the scene brings a "surprising second chance at happiness".
Tickets for the show, which runs until Saturday, are priced £7.50 from Kingsley Theatre box office on 830728 or from Wythall Theatre Company's ticket secretary on 07980 310606 or 01564 823470.
