A May Bank Holiday weekend of early music events in Discoed, near Presteigne, will culminate in a

restoration banquet at the Grade II listed Manor House.

The small parish of St Michael's has gathered force and talent to raise the funds to restore the listed church with its 5,000-year-old yew tree (the second oldest in the UK) and this three day

festival of music celebrates their faith.

International soprano, Evelyn Tubb gives a concert on Saturday night, with medieval instumentalists Michael Fields (harp and lute) and local musician David Hatcher (vielle and viola da gamba).

The programme will include music by 12th century nun, Hildegard von Bingen and secular love songs of the Elizabethan Court.

On Sunday, leading baroque duo,

violinist Catherine Mackintosh (leader of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment) and fortepianist Geoffrey Govier will perform Mozart's violin sonatas and bassoonist and early instrument specialist, Frances Eustace gives a lecture-recital called Still Music Plays - an exploration of the musical life of Restoration London.

Discoed is just to the west of Presteigne and all concerts will take place in St Michael's Church.
