INTEREST AND LEISURE CLUB: Club meeting in the British Legion Hall, April 13. After completion of the business the chairman Ben Jeffreys presented a bouquet of flowers to Evelyn and Alan Clayton congratulating them on their golden wedding anniversary. Barbara and Stan Dyer who could not be present were sent a bouquet for their diamond wedding anniversary.

The entertainment followed with a return visit of Morning Dew (Pat and Mike Ledbury). This time their subject was folk music and songs and how it evolved. This music was never written down but simply handed on orally. Mike playing his melodeon demonstrated how tunes were slightly altered by a few notes from county to county. One example he gave was a tune from Derbyshire travelled to Cornwall finally ending up as the famous Cornish Floral Dance.

He also showed the audience the differences between the accordion and the melodeon the main one being the accordion has keys and the melodeon buttons for the notes. He also had with him an instrument from Germany called a poker very portable much smaller and not the range of the larger instruments.

David Cham gave a warm vote of thanks and the meeting closed.

LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY: There was a full house for the April meeting at the WI Hall when John Wilson, of the Cogges Farm Museum, Witney, talked about rural and domestic bygones.
