IT'S 3.30am and I cannot sleep! I've been lying in bed for quite a while, thinking about the young families living down the road, between the very fast road to Bredon and the busy main-line railway track.
I am indeed very worried about the welfare of these people, who, after all have families just like mine. We all have loved ones; frail older folk, those who have ill-health and vulnerable little ones. Our men want to protect and provide for our wives, parents and children; just as they do!
How would we feel, if we were told that we have to leave our land, our stability and security, with our children, and hit the road in our vehicles, with no-where to go? How would we cope? The last thing we would want surely, is to upset our wives or frighten our children!
I am well aware of the legal problems and the ethical issues regarding planning permission here, but surely as a humanitarian society and a Christian country we should first find a suitable, alternative site for these families to move to. I can't help but ask myself, as a Christian, "What would Jesus Do?" (WWJD wrist bands are worn by many Christian young people in this country). Having just celebrated Easter and Jesus' wonderful resurrection, I know that He would have a deep love and compassion for these families, just as He has for us.
Please Wychavon District councillors, offer them an alternative site where they can live peacefully to care for their loved ones. We cannot surely as a country be seen to care more for the welfare of foxes than we do for people. This cannot be right!
