A MAN considered to be one of the finest singer/songwriters in England is set to perform in Stourport as part of the UK tour launching his first non-Christmas or compilation CD in 12 years.
Johnny Coppin will take to the stage at Areley Kings Village Hall tomorrow night alongside fellow singer/songwriter, Mike Silver, who had a BBC Radio 2 hit single with Not A Matter of Pride.
Cotswold-based Coppin found fame in the 1970s cult folk-rock band, Decameron, but has worked as a solo artist for many years, winning praise for his distinctive voice and songs in publications ranging from music magazines to broadsheet national newspapers.
His new album, Winding Stair, is a collection of 13 tracks, including some favourite tracks played on his weekly BBC Radio Gloucestershire folk roots show, as well as new songs.
It includes traditional Irish songs, Lakes of Coolfin and Donegal Rain, and Scottish singer/songwriter, Karine Polwart's, The Sun's Coming Over the Hill, which was named best original song at the recent BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
More information and tickets for the concert, which starts at 8pm and is part of the Follow The Dream tour, can be obtained by calling 01299 822160 or 01299 826352.
Copies of the CD can be purchased at the gig or online at www.johnnycoppin.co.uk
