HEREFORD'S premier alternative music night The Lock Up has gone through the latest stage of its evolution.

The night started out at the Jailhouse before moving to the Crystal Rooms (RIP) and then found its latest venue at the compact but cosy Scream.

Now promoters, Anthony 'Murf' Murphy and Lee 'Mayhem' Symonds, have decided to give the club a closer identity with the night by calling the venue The Lock Up.

The club will play host to Friday nights of hip-hop, drum and bass and breaks (the name is still to be decided) with Saturday still being host to Spunky - the old school techno and hardcore night. Midweek nights will provide a various mix of style and a rock night is currently being looked into.

To accompany the name change the pair have been getting their hands dirty trying to brighten up the place and create as much space as possible.

"We are changing the layout to use the space as best we can and also get the best atmosphere for when we have live acts," said Murf.

"We also got some local stencil graffiti artists to decorate and Lee and I have been doing a lot ourselves."

The Lock-Up is open this Friday for a night of drum and bass with Monumental and Twisted Individual. Arrive before 11.30 at the Aubrey Street venue to avoid disappointment.
