AMATEUR dramatics has proved so popular at Willersey that the village hall is not big enough for the audiences productions now attract.

"Thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of a small number of people and the great interest shown by many young local people, the 2004 show proved the village hall is not always able to accommodate all those wishing to attend," said Maurice Andrews, secretary and treasurer of Willersey Footlights.

"Therefore, once again, this year's show will be presented in a large marquee in the village hall car park which it is hoped will be filled to capacity."

The show Footlight Follies is to be presented on Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21, as part of the village activities to mark VE Day. Tickets are available at Willersey and Broadway post offices at £7.50 (children under 14 £5).

Following a successful Old Time Musical Hall presented in January 1986 which raised £450 for the recreation ground play equipment, it was decided to form a Footlights Society in February, 1986.

Since that date, with just a short break, 12 shows have been presented at the village hall on one, two or three nights for the benefit of local organisations and national charities, raising more than £9,000.

"We are a strictly amateur group, relying solely on local talent and enthusiasm," Mr Andrews said.

"Without any pretence of professionalism, a very high standard has been achieved and supporters from a wide area look forward to more productions.
