THE acoustics of an historic church in Kidderminster will add to the atmosphere when a well-known Danish cellist performs a concert with Wyre Forest Symphony Orchestra next month.

Troels Svane is playing in orchestra's Summer Concert at St Mary's Church on Saturday, May 21, and marketing officer and violinist, Dr Elizabeth Lammie, said the group was "pleased and excited" about the event.

She explained the orchestra had first played with the "brilliant" cellist around five years ago after being introduced to him by the Collegium Musicum Nordfriessland orchestra on a trip to Kidderminster's twin town of Husum.

She said the summer concert would be their third collaboration with the Dane, who would be the soloist for the Schumann Cello Concerto.

Other items on the programme include The Overture Ruy Blas by Mendelssohn and Symphony No 2 in D Minor by Sibelius, Dr Lammie said.

She added: "Troels is a very well-known cellist and we've really got to be in our best bib and tucker because it's quite a coup for him to come and play with us and we're very pleased.

"He's a brilliant cellist and I think it will be a very popular concert because the music is lovely."

More information on the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, can be obtained by calling 01562 635916, 01527 831258 or the church parish office on 01562 751923.

Tickets are available from Hunters Tobacconists in Kidderminster or on the door on the night.
