Wacky, exhausting and fun are the words which Jon Weller, head of music at Hereford Cathedral Junior School, uses to describe the music marathon which will take place at the school on Tuesday.

The 12 hours of non-stop live music will be provided by school pupils from nursery to Year 6, with a little bit of help from former Junior choir members now at the big school, and clarinettist Neil Moore.

Proceeds from the day will go towards the HCJS choir tour to London in June.

"The marathon is a great opportunity to highlight the tour, what we're doing at the school and to raise awareness of the charity, Sergeant Cancer Care for Children, which sponsorship proceeds will go to," says Jon.

The marathon kicks off at 9am in St David's Hall on Castle Street.

The Junior School's recorder groups, string orchestra and string quartet will all show their mettle on the day, in addition to the school's beginners, intermediate and advanced choirs.

The public is encouraged to support the event and two highlights will be Jon's lunchtime piano duet with Head of English, Dora Parry and the Senior School Jazz band from 8-9pm.

"I'll have a mound of music on stand-by to make the entertainment as continuous as possible," said Jon.

School choir parents will be providing refreshments as 450 children play and sing the changes.

Admission on the door is 50p. Further details available from the school office on 01432 363511.
