THEATREGOERS will have the opportunity to question the creators of three new plays next week in the studio of Kidderminster's Rose Theatre.

Take It From Me, Hostages and Not The Mona Lisa are being performed by professional actors in "script in hand" style at the Broadwaters playhouse next Friday, May 27.

The show, called Three's A Crowd, is the result of an in-house script-writing competition by the Worcester-based Swan Playwrights and will include a talk-back session, giving the audience the opportunity to express their views on the plays and talk to the writers, actors and director.

The show is being directed by professional director, Clare Smout, and will be performed by professional actors, Bharti Patel, Phillippa Horabin and Michael Blore.

Colleen Downes, who wrote Not The Mona Lisa under her maiden name, Coll Mealing, said the final scene in her comical mystery was set on the Severn Valley Railway.

She said a steam theme featured heavily in the play as a whole because one of the key characters, Phil, is obsessed with steam trains to such an extent that he drives his bored 53-year-old wife to spend her time clubbing.

"She's looking for something in life and looking in the wrong place, basically," she said.

She added the other plays were "completely varied", with Take It From Me, by Rose Marshall, focusing on a girl and her mum beginning to plan ahead and rebuild their lives until they receive a surprise visitor.

Hostages, by Ian Kendall, on the other hand, tells the story of a woman who is kept in an isolated house but sets about turning the situation around to her own advantage.

Three's A Crowd is also being performed from 7.30pm on Saturday, May 28, at Worcester Arts Workshop.
