A MAJOR star in the ascendancy is stopping off in Malvern on her way to the big time, according to the critics.
Jazz singer and composer Clare Teal is following two previous performances with another appearance at Malvern, but the difference is that this time she has signed up with Sony Jazz in a deal which has broken all records for a UK singer.
The Mail on Sunday called her 'a sensation in the normally sedate world of jazz' and Malvern Theatres spokeswoman Louise Russell said: "Clare possesses an extraordinarily effortless voice that has a distinctive richness and warmth, balanced by a rare subtlety and intimacy."
"Her personality takes her to an even more stellar level as a live performer when her passion, wit and ability to truly entertain set her apart."
Clare has been making her name at jazz clubs and festivals nationwide, including at the OneWorld stage at Glastonbury Festival.
Talking about the Malvern concert, she said: "I hope that every person in the audience leaves with a big grin on their face and the feeling that they have been entertained, that they have got to know me and are taking something away with them."
Her writing influences are as diverse as Cole Porter, Noel Coward, Kurt Weill, Dusty Springfield and Neil Hannan of Divine Comedy and her show will include songs in a range of styles.
She comes to the Forum Theatre in Malvern on Saturday, June 18 at 8pm. For tickets, call 01684 892277 or visit www.malvern-theatres.co.uk.
