Four star
PARIS Hilton makes her film debut (other than in home movies!) in this, a better-than-average teen slasher movie.
Based on a 1953 film of the same name, the story picks up with a group of horny teenagers who find themselves stranded off the beaten track.
Venturing into the nearest town to find help, they discover a creepy old museum which houses some very realistic looking wax sculptures.
Soon, the students are being picked off one by one by a sadistic set of twins whose speciality is incarcerating their victims in wax and sticking them in the museum.
Fans of Hilton (and equally those who despise her) will enjoy watching her dashing around rather helplessly in her lacy smalls before meeting a gory end.
And although she has about as much acting talent as body fat, lead stars Elisha Cuthbert and Chad Michael Murray make up for it, appearing genuinely frightened by their predicament.
It is easy to dismiss House of Wax as just another remake but unlike most, this one really packs a punch and is as gut-wrenchingly sick as it is funny.
It also features some fantastic special effects.
Not for the faint hearted, House of Wax contains some of the grisliest scenes I have seen in the cinema for a long time and I was surprised at the film's meagre 15 rating.
Watch it if you dare!
