A PLAY by the writer of the television comedies, Rising Damp and Home To Roost, is set to bring laughter to Blakedown Parish Rooms.
Double Vision is being performed by Theatre 282 tonight, tomorrow and Saturday and has already provided the cast with "moments of pure laughter" during rehearsals, which have been taking place since March.
That was according to stage manager for the show, Ben Moseley, who explained the "laugh out loud" comedy was set in ex-boxer Arthur Spinks's living room on the 10th floor of a high-rise block of flats.
He described the central character, Spinks, played by Mike Pugh, as myopic, poor and lonely.
He said his one companion was an alcoholic called Kingsley with whom he had a "rather tetchy, exasperated friendship".
He added: "To gain attention, Spinks pretends to win the National Lottery and he starts receiving freebies and handouts from people hoping to get a share of his fortune.
"Plain Dawn Pringle, played by Lucie Seager, loves Spinks for himself - not his money - and warns him against her man-eater identical twin sister, Donna, who turns up and seduces him.
"Just in time, Spinks makes an important discovery about his new-found loves," he said.
All the cast have a wealth of experience of treading the boards in Blakedown, he added, with Pugh having performed in Sleuth and Crimson Coconut and Seagar also taking part in The Crimson Coconut and The Wizard of Oz.
Tickets for Double Vision, which starts at 7.30pm each night, can be booked by calling 01562 639425 or 07866 858300.
They can also be purchased on the door on the night.
