Worcester’s favorite tribute act didn’t fail to leave anyone jaw-agape in an awe-inspiring two hour spectacle at the Marr’s Bar on Saturday.
As a firm favorite of revelers in the city, The Fredz, now in their 17th year, faced already high expectations, which they met and exceeded seemingly without effort.
A blistering compilation of Zeppelin classics performed immaculately, coupled with a unique stage presence and awesome charisma led the tightly packed audience through a golden era of Zeppeliny goodness.
The band erupted into their performance with ‘The Rover’- a bluesy belter and firm favorite amongst Led-Heads.
An energetic and pitch perfect Fred Zeppelin emerged from the settling dust, with all eyes (and ears) fixed firmly on the four piece.
Bemused fans were easily captured as the band teased their way into classic anthem ‘Black Dog’, boosted by mid-set sing-alongs such as ‘Since I’ve Been Lovin’ You’ and ‘In My Time of Dying’.
Frontman Steve Gale and the boys didn’t fail to involve the crowd either, allowing pauses for the audience to blurt out their own unique interpretations of the lyrics to ‘Communication Break Down’.
It seemed pointless trying to ignore the energetic presence of Gale, who remains true to character both with his authentic Robert Plant hair-do and the scarily good set of lungs he possesses. Guitarist Keith Jenkins captivated the audience as he accurately recreated the licks and riffs of legendary guitarist Jimmy Page, adding his own unique sense of style to each song.
Along with graciously groovy bassist Kevin Brown and the always rhythmic Steve Black on drums, the boys formed a well oiled musical machine which built up a fast paced momentum as the show went on.
None of which was lost as the band soared into 'Rock N’ Roll', followed effortlessly by ‘Immigrant Song’ and finishing up with the flagship of Zeppelin’s musical fleet ‘Whole Lotta Love’.
A stunning rendition of ‘Kashmir’ for an encore left fans utterly content, evident by the pools of drool that had now formed on the floor.
Not to be missed at the next available opportunity, Fred Zeppelin provide real quality and above all a fun night out for fans old and young alike.
