A LITTLE girl whose mum underwent a life-saving lung transplant has been given an X Factor birthday surprise.
Kelsey-Louise Grainger celebrated her 10th birthday yesterday with a special surprise thanks to her mum Sally-Anne and your Worcester News.
When Miss Grainger heard that cult X Factor finalists Jedward would be appearing in Worcester, she approached your Worcester News to arrange a special surprise for her daughter.
Teenage twins John and Edward wowed crowds at city nightspot Tramps after being voted off the hit ITV1 show, but little Kelsey-Louise wasn’t old enough to watch their performance.
So mum Miss Grainger, who earlier this year had a double lung transplant, bought a copy of the X Factor finalists’ CD You Are Not Alone, and arranged with your Worcester News to have it signed by the dynamic duo.
“It would just be a dream come true for her to have the CD and make it a special birthday for Kelsey who I believe deserves a lot of happiness for what she has endured with myself being so poorly,” she said.
Miss Grainger, of Swallowfields, Warndon Villages, Worcester, said that she wanted to make her daughter’s birthday extra special this year, as she had cared for her so much when she was ill.
“I am so proud of her,” she said. “It is nice now that she can be a child and not a mini-adult caring for me. This is the first year in a while I haven’t been in hospital so I wanted to make today very special for her. It is a big milestone for me and Christmas will be another one.”
Despite being mobbed by hundreds of fans following their performance in Tramps the twins were only to happy to sign the CD after we told them about Kelsey-Louise The birthday girl then visited our Hylton Road office to find out her surprise.
She said: “Thank you so much, it has made my birthday really special.
“I really like the twins. They were cheeky on X Factor and I liked seeing their performance. I am a big fan of them and I can’t wait to listen to the CD. I’m so happy you managed to get it signed for me.”
Earlier this year, Miss Grainger was given months to live before she finally had the transplant. The 29-year-old, who has cystic fibrosis, had been waiting five years for the op.
Miss Grainger said she was excited about Christmas with Kelsey-Louise and her other daughter Megan, aged five, and and would make ti a special occasion.
