FAMILIES are being invited to have a green Christmas by making their own decorations next week.
Staff from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust are running the craft event to help children to discover how they can make unique Christmas decorations from recycled and natural materials.
Children will use paper, twigs and leaves to make wrapping paper, reindeer decorations, Christmas wreaths and stars at the event next Thursday.
Deborah Bull, education officer, said: “Up to 1 billion Christmas cards could end up in the bin this year and we use enough wrapping paper to cover an area the size of Guernsey.
“Our event will help reduce the amount of money we spend and resources we use just to wrap our presents and decorate our homes.
“Hopefully it will give families an idea about other things they could do. Used Christmas cards, for example, can be cut up to design new cards or used as present labels.
“Our activities are really popular and attract children of all ages; there’s a chance to discover more about how we can all help our environment through hands-on and craft activities.”
The event runs between 5pm and 7pm at Lower Smite Farm, between Worcester and Droitwich, and costs £3 per child. Booking is essential on 01905 754919.
