PLANS for a northern extension of the Ledbury bypass may have reached a dead end.
Developers wanted to open 30 acres of land by connecting the New Mills roundabout with Bromyard Road.
But those plans could be scuppered by Herefordshire Council and a new-look regional development plan.
Cabinet members agreed to approve a Place Shaping Paper (PSP) for consultation.
The document is effectively a planning blueprint for the county and is based on background papers and public feedback.
A consultation on the PSP should take place between January and March next year.
But Alison Grange, Herefordshire Council press officer, said: “The document that’s going into the PSP in January suggests that the allocation of land, north of the bypass, should be changed to housing rather than industry,” she said.
“If that’s accepted it would negate the need for another bypass.”
Ledbury Town Council was told last November that Advantage West Midlands (AWM) could partfinance the scheme.
Ian Higgs said AWM was still interested in providing employment land, but had no involvement with the bypass construction.
