A WORCESTER church was filled with flowers and trees in time for Christmas.
St Nicholas Church in Warndon Villages was decorated with an abundance of seasonal flora for a special Christmas tree festival. Many of the flower arrangements reflected the legend of Saint Nicholas – a Christian figure closely associated with Santa Claus because he had a reputation for giving gifts in secret.
The festival started at 7.30pm on Friday when a boy bishop, a young member of the church congregation dressed as a bishop, carried out a priest’s functions. The mediaeval tradition of having a boy bishop has become synonymous with St Nicholas Day, which fell on Sunday.
On Saturday, residents enjoyed a concert featuring performances by the church music group and members of Lyppard Grange Primary School choir. Donations collected on the night will be split between the church and Acorns Children’s Hospice in Worcester.
