BOWLERS in Worcester joined together this week to celebrate raising hundreds of pounds in memory of a close friend.
At the beginning of November, 48 bowlers had gathered at Worcester Bowl, Bromyard Road, for the annual Phil Mattey Tournament. Phil, who was a keen bowler and secretary to the leagues, died 13 years ago from prostate cancer, and the tournament has been held in his memory every year since.
This year, the group raised £660.25 for Cancer Research UK through the tournament, a raffle and a quiz.
Each player had to pay £6 to enter and £5 of the fee went towards the charity.
Next year’s tournament is scheduled to take place at Worcester Bowl on Sunday, November 7.
