ARMS were illuminated for charity at a Worcester Warriors rugby match.
The Rotary Clubs of Worcester Vigornia and Droitwich joined forces at Sixways to sell illuminated bracelets to rugby supporters at the match between Worcester Warriors and Saracens last Friday night.
The event raised £1,000, which is enough to buy at least two shelter boxes that can be shipped out to a Rotary group in Samoa in the South Pacific Ocean, for distribution to tsunami victims.
Each shelter box will provide temporary shelter and fresh water for 10 people for at least a month.
Hundreds of rugby fans contributed money to buy illuminated bracelets, which shone for the duration of the match.
Sue Fitzjohn and Richard Carter, the presidents of the two Rotary clubs, said they were absolutely delighted with the response from both sets of supporters.
Ms Fitzjohn said: “Even when things are a bit tough financially, people are still prepared to give to help others.
“I really want to thank the fans for their support and also a big thanks must go to the chairman and management at Sixways for allowing us to collect on Friday night.”
