WORCESTER has presented an award to an outgoing consul for his services to the community.
Arif Mahmood, from the Pakistani Consulate for the West Midlands, was presented the award by the Mayor of Worcester Councillor Andy Roberts.
The award recognises the work consul Mahmood has done during the last five years, helping those of Pakistani origin in the Midlands, as well as ensuring co-operation with the local authorities and reaching out to those overseas.
Councillor Allah Ditta pushed for the award, crediting Consul Mahmood with helping him with his political career. The two men have worked together for a number of years on Asian issues across the region.
Consul Mahmood, who is leaving Birmingham to become Pakistan’s ambassador to North Korea in the near future, said: “The people in Worcester were very kind to recognise my service.”
