A JEALOUS man threatened his girlfriend with a knife and kicked her friend’s dog after she called him to say she was going to sleep with someone else.
Scott Smith received a call from his girlfriend in which she told him there were other men at her friend’s home and she was going to have sex with one of them.
Smith, aged 19, was so angry he went around to her friend’s house in Milton Close, Blanquettes estate, Worcester, to confront his girlfriend following the telephone call at 3.30am on Sunday, August 16. He was carrying a knife in his right hand. Smith, of Carlisle Road, Ronkswood, Worcester, admitted threatening behaviour and possession of a knife when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.
Smith had previously denied the charges against him but changed his plea to guilty on the day. Lesley Ashton, prosecuting, said when his girlfriend realised he was coming round, she hid in a wardrobe in her friend’s brother’s room.
Miss Ashton said that shortly after the telephone call, the security light outside was activated and Smith began banging on the sitting room window.
Miss Ashton, reading a statement from a witness, said: “He barged past me into the house and I saw he had a knife in his right hand. He was in a rage and we weren’t able to stop him. He found his girlfriend in a wardrobe and he grabbed her, pulling her out. He started to push and kick my dog as he was on the landing, barking at all the commotion. I hit Scott or slapped him or pushed his head with the flat of my hand.”
In a statement to police, Smith said: “I can’t remember why I picked up the knife but I took it to scare her. I wasn’t thinking.”
Andy Childs, defending, said the couple had a very volatile relationship. He said Smith had arranged to go camping and got a telephone call from his girlfriend following a series of text messages exchanged between the two.
Mr Childs said: “At 3.30am he got a phone call to say ‘I’m just about to jump into bed with some lads’. The reaction was rather excessive.” He said his client did not brandish the knife. He was sorry for what he did to the dog,” said Mr Childs. The case was adjourned until Monday, December 21 so that a pre-sentence report can be prepared.
