A DRUNK woman launched a tirade of abuse and threw vodka at police officers because she was angry about having no electricity at her home.
Julia Harper turned up at the counter of Worcester police station in Castle Street and demanded that officers call Worcester City Council to sort out the electrical problem at her home.
Harper, aged 48, of Back Lane South, off The Tything in Worcester, admitted drunk and disorderly behaviour following her outburst at the police station at 6pm on Monday, November 9.
Sarah Stock, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said that when police managed to get through to someone at the city council an official said they would not be coming to her home to fix the problem because of her behaviour.
Mrs Stock said: “She replied to the counter staff aggressively.
“She swore and said, ‘If they don’t come out, I will sort it myself’.”
Mrs Stock told the court that Harper appeared to calm down when she was advised by police officers that her behaviour needed to improve if she needed help.
Mrs Stock said: “As the officer turned away from her she gestured with the middle finger of her right hand behind his back.
“He warned her that if her behaviour continued she would be arrested. Her reply was to swear at him.
“He then asked her to hand over the bottle of cola she was drinking from. She threw it at him, although the contents ended up against the wall. It was in fact vodka in the container.”
District judge Bruce Morgan asked her: “What do you have to say about this disgusting behaviour? Why annoy them? They do a good job, unlike you.”
She told Mr Morgan she had no electricity, to which Mr Morgan replied: “What’s that got to do with the police? We all have problems in life. You don’t go around to the police station to take it out on them.
“They have more important things to do than dealing with drunks.”
Harper, who is on incapacity benefit of £86 per week, said: “I apologise for my actions. I can’t remember a lot about it.”
She was fined £100, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
