A CURRY house which prides itself on its fund-raising abilities as much as its korma has won an award.
Cromwells, in Powick, near Worcester, won the General Sir George Weir Cup for poppy collecting, awarded by the Royal British Legion, Powick and Callow End branch, by collecting £134.23 for their poppies.
It is not the first time they’ve put their heart and soul into raising money for good causes.
In the past, they’ve raised more than £600 for Acorns Children’s Hospice and £1,053 for the British Heart Foundation.
Owner Abdul Sattar said: “The cup is displayed on the bar. It’s something I wasn’t expecting, but it was very nice to win it.”
John Mason, of Powick and Callow End Royal British Legion, said: “This year the cup has been won for the first time by Cromwells of Powick with a magnificent total of £134.23.
“We would like to thank all the establishments in our community for their support in what has been a very close contest this year,”
said Mr Mason.
