A FORMER school caretaker who lost his job and then launched a failed business enterprise has admitted drink driving.
Simon Edwards appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court after he was stopped by police in his Renault Espace in Upton-upon-Severn.
The 48-year-old, of Welland Court Lane, Upton-upon-Severn, was spotted driving erratically through the town, stopped and breathalysed.
At the police station he was given a blood alcohol test which revealed 89mg in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 80mg.
Edwards explained he had been a caretaker at Alice Ottley School before it merged with Worcester Grammar School which caused him to lose his job three years ago.
He than set up a property maintenance business which has now run out of work.
Mr Morgan said: “You were just over the legal limit but I have to disqualify you from driving for at least a year. I have no discretion over that. I have to do it.”
He was fined £250, disqualified from driving for 12 months, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Edwards said he had no source of income now other than benefits so the money will be deducted from that.
