THE search is on to find Worcestershire’s unsung heroes.

The county council is about to launch its annual competition for talented and brave 11 to 19 year olds.

Anybody who has an involvement with young people – such as teachers, youth workers, sports coaches, volunteers, family and friends – can nominate a young person for the Tryangle Awards.

Councillor Liz Eyre, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “These awards are one way in which we can put into the spotlight many young people who are so often unsung heroes. The awards are a chance for us all to recognise the hard work and value that young people can bring to their communities here in Worcestershire.

“The Tryangle Awards are all about recognising and celebrating effort, we are not only celebrating the high-fliers, but we want to applaud the real triers too and we need the help of Worcestershire residents to help identify them.”

Once the search is officially launched on Tuesday, youngsters can be nominated for one of the following seven categories: :: Bravery :: Personal achievement in the arts :: Personal achievement in music :: Personal achievement in sports or outdoor activity :: Good friends and carers :: Citizenship and environment :: Personal development Every young person who is nominated for an award will receive a certificate to show that his or her efforts have been officially recognised.

The overall winners of each category will be announced at an awards ceremony at County Hall, Worcester, on Thursday, March 11.

The closing date for all nominations is Friday, February 12.
