PEOPLE are being offered 1,500 free trees by garden centres in Worcestershire so they can help break a world record.

Worcester’s three Homebase stores have 900 saplings to give away and Webbs garden centres at Wychbold and West Hagley have 600 young trees to give away as part of the BBC’s ‘Tree O’Clock’ record-breaking attempt.

For the record to be broken, more than 653,143 trees - the current Guiness World Record - need to be planted in just one hour.

The attempt will take place on Saturday, December 5, and all you need to take part is a tree and a camera to prove the tree was planted.

Executive chairman of Webbs, Ed Webb said: "We are delighted to be supporting this scheme. It's a fantastic and simple idea and planting trees will improve the environment, help wildlife and make life leafier!"
