MORE than 100 businesses from across Worcestershire turned out for the Export Factor conference at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium to look at ways to build international business and fight the recession.
The event, organised by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Economy Action Group and HSBC, was highlighted by a visit from Lord Davies of Abersoch, the Minister for Trade, Business and Small Business.
During his keynote speech, Lord Davies spoke about the importance of ensuring that Britain remained at the top of people’s minds when considering direct investment and that it was vital we continue to compete for business overseas. He was also keen to hear issues, concerns and criticisms from the audience who asked him questions on topics including the Government’s stance on climate change and the impact of international trade on small businesses. Throughout the day, key industry specialists and advisers were also on hand to help individual companies with specific enquiries and presentations on a wide range of issues of interest to all.
Topics covered included growing your business through cross border mergers and acquisitions and the outlook for global and UK economies following worldwide recession. The event also gave an excellent insight into the support and funding available to assist local businesses in terms of international growth.
