SELF-styled rock star Jamie Archer whipped the crowd into a frenzy when he performed in Worcester.
The X Factor contestant, who was voted off the ITV show 10 days ago, played live at Tramps in Angel Place on Monday and impressed the audience with his rendition of Sex on Fire.
Speaking to your Worcester News before the show, the 34-year-old described himself as “a guitarist first and singer second”.
He revealed plans to record and release an album of original material and admitted that he could be himself now that he had left the show.
“I’m back being me again after being on a show where you’ve got a lot of very different people pulling you in directions they want you to go.
“But this is who I am. I come from a live background and that’s what I want to build my reputation on.
“When a musician is on stage it’s not just about them – it’s about the audience and the experience.”
Jamie, who has been nicknamed Jamie Afro, became the first of Simon Cowell’s over-25s to leave the singing contest, but has remained upbeat.
He is confident that the show has raised his profile enough to be a success.
He said: “It’s up to me to keep the momentum going. I said it on the show and I meant it – it’s not the end, it’s the beginning.”
Meanwhile, a huge crowd is expected at Tramps on Monday, when Irish twins John and Edward Grimes play live. The controversial double act, dubbed Jedward, will perform three songs in front of hundreds of Worcester fans.
