A MAN from Worcester who threatened to post naked pictures of his ex-girlfriend on Facebook has been told he could face a prison sentence.
Kurt Doherty began a relationship with Victoria Cox in November, 2006, which ended in March this year, Worcester Magistrates Court was told.
Leslie Ashton, prosecuting, said Doherty began sending a series of abusive and threatening messages after Miss Cox started a relationship with someone else. Miss Ashton said one text from Doherty to Miss Cox said: “Tell him to go into hiding because I am going to get hold of him.”
Doherty, aged 20, of Withy Wells Farm, Spetchley, near Worcester, was warned by police not to contact Miss Cox again.
The court was told how Miss Cox changed her mobile phone number in July and Doherty began calling her on her home phone. Doherty got hold of her new mobile number from a mutual friend in October and launched a further campaign of threats and abuse.
A text sent on Sunday, November 1, read: “I know exactly where he lives now, it’s a matter of time.”
On Tuesday, November 3, Doherty texted Miss Cox to say he had a number of pictures of her with no clothes on and he was going to post them on Facebook every hour.
The threatening texts continued and on Friday, November 6, Doherty wrote: “Can you tell your faggot of a boyfriend to stop asking questions about me, he knows I’m after him.”
The court was told how Doherty also got hold of Miss Cox’s new partner’s mobile number and in one text he said: “You’re a dead man, I’m going to rip your head off. I’m going to make your life hell.”
Doherty was arrested and admitted sending the texts to “scare and annoy” the pair. He said he had no intention of putting the naked pictures of Miss Cox on Facebook.
Doherty, who admitted two counts of harassment was given a 12-month restraining order not to contact Victoria Cox or her new partner. He will be sentenced on Monday, December 14. Magistrates said he could be jailed.
