OLD coins, china and paintings were among the antiques valued for a TV programme filmed in Malvern yesterday.
Hundreds queued at Malvern Theatres so the experts of BBC2 programme Flog It! could cast their eyes over their prized possessions.
The popular programme offers people the chance to have their items valued and, if they decide to sell, follows their fortunes at the auction house.
One visitor who chose to sell was Gillian Dallimore, from Great Malvern, who took along four commemorative gold coins created to mark the life of Winston Churchill.
The 22 carat gold coins, which were probably made in the 1970s, bore the inscription “We shall never surrender” and were valued at £300 each.
Mrs Dallimore said: “They were my father’s who died and left them to me.
“I’ve got four daughters. I may as well sell them now and let them have some money. They are only sat in a box at home.
“I think the valuation’s quite good.
“I didn’t really know how much they were worth.”
However, Glenys Taylor, who lives near Powick, decided she did not want to sell her porcelain figure of two children pushing out a boat after a disappointing valuation.
She said: “If it’s not really valuable at the present moment I won’t part with it because I love it so much. I think I’d miss it.
“Henry Sandon valued it at £400 but they’ve only valued it at about £200.” Furniture, illustrations, Japanese Hina dolls and a collection of crochet hooks were among the items valued at the event yesterday. The filming plus footage from the sale in January will be used for three programmes in the series.
